He was alive in my grandfather's day (gpa died in '85). Armstrong was the head of the Worldwide Church of God (The Watch Tower was their magazine) and did phenomenal research on tracing the "lost" tribes of Israel. He did not see Y'shua as being "God in the flesh". That's about all I know. Mom said that gpa supported him big-time, which was curious since gpa was an evangelical Quaker. I recently learned, though, that his name (Bechtold of Berchtold of Switzerland) is Ashkenazi Jewish. I also realized that "Ira" was King David's high priest, and gpa was an Ira, as was one of his recent forebears. Gpa Ira must have known of his Jewish heritage, but didn't share it with us grandchildren, and I assume didn't share it with his daughters, either, as they seem surprised when I share all of this with them.
