At Torah to the Tribes Hebrew Day School, our responsibility to the Hebrew community is to ensure its continuity through education. We believe that where Torah and secular studies are integrated, and where a love for Israel and Hebrew tradition are fostered, students will discover the beauty of their heritage as the House of Israel—Ephraim and Judah. A major goal is to educate the heart as well as the mind, to develop a strong sense of Biblical values, and to train our children up in the Word of YHWH (Yahweh) according to Devarim/Deuteronomy 6:4.With this in mind, the school emphasizes the Hebrew origin of our faith that was handed down to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We uphold and teach only the Hebrew names as opposed to the English replacements: Yahweh, Elohim, Yahshua and Ruach haKodesh (the Holy Spirit). We teach the Hebrew calendar including the weekly Shabbat/Sabbath and all the Biblical feasts and festivals.
In keeping with our faith, we maintain the dietary requirements found in Vayikra/ Leviticus 11 (Kosher teachings); this includes all products that are brought onto the premises. A detailed summary can be found in the kitchen.
School is opened and closed with the “Shema” prayer:
| Deuteronomy 6:4-9 |
Sh’ma Yis’ra’eil Yahweh Eloheinu Yahweh echad. Hear, Israel, Yahweh is our Elohim, Yahweh is One. |
| In an undertone: Barukh sheim k’vod malkhuto l’olam va’ed. Blessed be the Name of His glorious kingdom for ever and ever. |
The food blessing is recited at meal time:
Ba-ruch a-tah Yahweh E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech Ha-o-lam, bo-rei mi-nei m’zonot.
Blessed are You, Yahweh, our Elohim, King of the Universe, who creates variety of sustenance.
This reminds the children that all blessings and goodness come from Yahweh.
Our mission is to develop confident, accomplished, and compassionate children who have a sound understanding of their history as the House of Israel—Ephraim and Judah— and Biblical culture. We achieve our goal through an academic program integrated with a solid Scriptural-based education.
